A Visit to King’s Landing

Being a massive GOT fan, I traveled to Croatia last September to explore the locations where the show was filmed!

Croatia is where much of the Daenerys and Kings Landing storyline takes place. Dubrovnik’s old city have been used extensively for Kings Landing since season two[1]. The locations in the Old City include the Pile and Ploče gate, the St. Dominika street, along the city walls includes the Bokar fortress and the Minčeta tower[2]

18a — A View of the Old town from the walls

This ancient city brims with amazing architecture and is surrounded by the Mediterranean on the one side and amazing walls on the other .Visitors can take a walk along the city walls that surrounds the Old City. The walk takes a couple of hours and offers stunning views of the Dalmatian Coast and a bird’s eye view of the city. Lovrijenac Fortress is one of the sights that can be seen from the wall, it is an impressive structure built on an outcropping rock. It is located just outside the Western wall of the Old Town and was featured in Game of Thrones[3].

2. Stairs to the Great Sept of Baelor which is actually the Baroque Staircase

This was infamously consumed by wildfire!

3. The walk of Atonement location!

Season 5, Episode 10

Cersei’s walk of atonement ! There is CGI castle work in the distance. You’ll notice it’s quite different in real life. Another fact: Cersei had a body double in this scene [4]

Season 2, Episode 6

The Pile Gates is used on multiple occasions. Notably, when Marcella is being sent away to Dorne and Joffrey is returning to the castle by foot, only to get harassed by angry mobs.

8.Littlefinger talks with Sansa (Outside the walls of Dubrovnik)

Season 3, Episode 1

This location doubles for Blackwater Bay and the wildfire scene. Sansa and Shae are talking on the dock before Littlefinger shows up to tell Sansa he’s got an escape plan for her.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful City with a breathtaking view
